SUMMER SKIN
A brand new song in the midst of an album release cycle?! We’re breaking all of the rules 😜
What a wild 24 hours! Here is our entry in the WXPN #XPNSongChallenge, written and recorded in one day. The prompt was "summertime" - Erin and I worked side by side brainstorming some ideas and settled on writing about a summer relationship that you know won't last, but that is exhilarating all the same - and maybe even sweeter because of the brevity. We got most of it pieced together yesterday, then went to a fundraiser run event, and then reconvened this morning to finish and film this before our gig. Hopefully you like it and find something relatable hidden within 😊

Verse 1
Summer solstice, looks like rain
Locking eyes on the longest day
Come together then move away
Summer solstice, looks like rain
Verse 2
Sweat bitter, sweet grass skin
Rush of blood when it begins
Feels like fire from way back when
In my periphery I can see the end
Pre-Chorus
You’re only mine like a summer night
Short and sweet and choking on the heat
Chorus 1
I’m in my summer skin
Just for a while
The autumn covets and is waiting in the wings
Fireflies in mid-July
Gone in an instant
Don’t you love the things you know will soon expire
Verse 3
Floating down the Delaware
Sun so hot but I don’t care
I’ll still smell your citrus hair
When we look back in 30 years
Pre-Chorus
Chorus 1
Chorus 2
I’m in my summer skin
Just for a while-----------
(Instrumental)
Outro
Sticking to the black-top
Trying to run but time’s stopped
Garden falls to sweet rot
The ending’s all that we got
