Monday Musings: Think Different

Do Not Be Afraid.

Just a quick note today, and a reminder for us all: Don’t be afraid to do things in a different way than you’re used to.

A year ago, we recorded a decidedly non-folky version of our original song, “Stuck”, during our spring tour through the southeast. A generous new friend let us stay in her Airbnb, and we couldn’t resist making some noise with her Baldwin Fun Machine, a fancy organ/synth/keyboard from the 70’s. This off-the-cuff recording is one of my favorite things we’ve ever done. We replaced our usual glockenspiel line with the keyboard, and let the Fun Machine do its thing to add a funky bass line and rhythm part. (Check out the video below!)

Sometimes I can get a bit strict in my desire to play our songs the way they’ve always sounded. This version of “Stuck” reminds me to let go and try a new way. You never know what kind of good things will come out of a little experimentation.

Oh! Almost forgot to mention... we are cautiously dipping our toes back into house shows! Or more accurately, yard shows. We have been thinking and over-thinking about this for weeks and we think it's doable if everyone involved is cautious and respectful of guidelines.
